A plethora of opportunity under one roof at BDIA Dental Showcase
BDIA Dental Showcase returned to the NEC this October to provide thousands of attendees with the access to the latest guidance, products and services available in the industry.
Visitors had the chance to enjoy both the new features and old favourites incorporated into this year's show. Those interested in specialising in areas of dentistry such as orthodontics or paediatric dentistry had an opportunity to gain expert advice in the newly designated 'Specialist Zone'. Also new for 2019 was the Practice Owners’ Lounge, sponsored by Dentsply Sirona, which allowed owners to sit and relax between business-focussed sessions and browsing the impressive exhibition hall.
In the Dental Update Theatre, it was standing room only as a cohort of the industry's leading academics congregated to share their latest research and knowledge to a keen audience. Topics were diverse in content; Professor Trevor Burke, for example, covered the issue of minimally invasive restorations of worn teeth, whilst Professor Tim Newton explored the challenging issue of behavioural change.
There were also many informal educational opportunities provided by the trade on their exhibition stands. These provided an ideal opportunity for delegates to boost their CPD as they accessed tailored content and gained valuable information on a plethora of subjects.
Exclusive to Showcase, Sara Hurley, CDO for England, was also around for the entirety of the show with her team. Through sessions in the CDO Zone and Innovation Theatre, she imparted knowledge on upcoming plans for NHS dentistry and took feedback from those working within the NHS.
Tom Pellereau, former Apprentice winner, presented his latest innovation, the STYLSMILE, a home whitening treatment, which complements professional tooth whitening systems. Tom was also eager to share some of his anecdotes from his time on The Apprentice as well as divulge what working for Lord Sugar is really like!
One of the main draws for visitors is always the plethora of trade exhibitors, who each year choose BDIA Dental Showcase as their main platform to launch new products, as well as exhibit their existing range. Delegates could shop around before committing to a purchase, saving hours in research by comparing the latest products under one roof.
Those practices thinking of upgrading their equipment were keen to peruse the products in the Digital Workflow Showcase, a new area within the exhibition hall that showed the complete workflow of how an entirely digital practice would run. As well as equipment, each station within this exhibit had experts on hand so that visitors could really experiment with the technology as well as explore how it could be applied within their own surgery.
BDIA Dental Showcase was also a great opportunity to mix business with pleasure. The new-for-2019 Networking Bar was a welcome oasis for delegates where they could rest their feet and enjoy informal drinks. The Foundation Dentists’ Ball took place on the Friday night to allow newly qualified dentists celebrate and let their hair down. The Bridge2Aid Bash, sponsored by BDIA Dental Showcase, gave visitors the chance to network and have fun while raising crucial funds to support Bridge2Aid’s work.
