Press Launch

Cooking up a Press Launch

A lunch for members of the dental press was held at the end of March to launch the theme for BDTA Dental Showcase 2008.

With the theme this year focused on ‘A recipe for success’, there seemed nowhere better to hold the lunch than Fortnum and Mason in London’s Piccadilly, which has had a reputation for providing exquisite food and beverage merchandise for more than 300 years.

‘A Recipe for Success’ was chosen as the theme to promote Dental Showcase 2008 as the concept of eating, which centres on the mouth, links both food and dentistry perfectly and the increasing demand for aesthetically pleasing food connects with the increased demand for an aesthetically pleasing smile.  The theme also provides a clever interpretation of the Dental Showcase ‘dining’ experience, starting with the anticipation of attending the exhibition, then the inspiration from looking at the products and services on display and ultimately the satisfaction of finding the desired product.

During the lunch, the sixteen members of the press, representing the leading journals in the dental industry, participated in a short Showcase quiz.  It tested their knowledge of the event past and present and introduced the text registration service and Showcase Facebook page introduced in 2008.  Rowena Milan, Journal Editor of the BDJ, answered every question correctly and was the delighted winner of a world renowned Fortnum and Mason hamper.

Tony Reed, Executive Director, used the opportunity to thank the dental press for the support and magazine coverage that they dedicate to the exhibition.  He said “We recognise that the BDTA Showcase has an important role to play in keeping the whole dental team up to date with the latest developments in dentistry.  We are delighted that the GDC has now formally acknowledged that trade shows can provide valuable CPD for dental professionals and we will working hard to make this year’s Showcase better than ever.”
