Core CPD for Technicians by attending ShowcaseInformation at a Glance

Since the expansion of GDC registration to include dental nurses and technicians, compulsory CPD is now a necessity for a greater number of dental team members.  The GDC has recommended that all dentists and dental care professionals carry out verifiable CPD in three core subjects during each five year CPD cycle.  These cover:

  • medical emergencies
  • disinfection and decontamination
  • radiography and radiation protection.

For dental technicians, it has been suggested that radiography and radiation protection can be substituted with materials and equipment as the application of radiography is not covered in the curriculum for technicians. 

BDTA Dental Showcase provides the perfect opportunity for technicians to learn about the latest materials, equipment, products, services and technologies in one location, enabling the core CPD subject to be comprehensively covered.  A range of learning methods are provided by exhibitors over the three day event, including literature sources, demonstrations, displays and short presentations, which helps to cater for the majority of educational needs and preferences.

BDTA Dental Showcase 2008 takes place at ExCeL London, 2-4 October 2008 and, provided you register in advance (before 26 September 2008), is free to attend.  Educational aims and objectives are detailed below and a CPD certificate of attendance and feedback opportunity will be supplied after the event to comply with the GDC’s requirements for verifiable CPD. 

Educational aims and objectives for BDTA Dental Showcase 2008

  1. Assess a range of materials and equipment from a number of suppliers/manufacturers.
  2. Critically evaluate materials and equipment in terms of the benefits to clients and patients.
  3. Enhance knowledge of newly developed equipment and materials and review potential future applications.
